COVID-19 Subvariant JN.1 Emerges : In a recent development, 21 cases of the JN.1 variant of the Corona virus have been identified in the country. Among these, the highest number, 19 cases, have been reported in Goa, while one case each has been confirmed in Kerala and Maharashtra. Designated as a variant of interest by the World Health Organization (WHO), the emergence of JN.1 has prompted health authorities to emphasize vigilance rather than fear.
The Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, urged states to heighten their alertness in light of the increasing cases of COVID-19, particularly emphasizing the impact of the JN.1 variant. According to the latest data updated on Wednesday at 8 am, the country reported 614 new cases of corona infection in the past 24 hours. This marks the highest single-day infection count since May 21. The Health Ministry highlighted that the number of active cases nationwide has risen to 2,311.
Kerala, in particular, reported 292 new cases, marking a significant surge, and three patients succumbed to the virus. The number of active cases in the state has reached 2,041.
