Hangzhou, China – September 27, 2023: India’s shooting excellence continues to shine at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou as the trio of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rhythm Sangwan secured a Gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol team event. India’s outstanding performance earned them a total of 1759 points, securing the coveted top spot on the podium. China secured the silver medal with 1756 points, while South Korea clinched the bronze with a total of 1742 points.
Manu Bhaker led the team with an exceptional rapid series performance, making a substantial contribution to their victory. In the individual qualification standings for the women’s 25m pistol event, Manu Bhaker claimed the top position with an impressive score of 590. Esha Singh secured the 5th position with a score of 586, and Rhythm Sangwan finished 7th with a score of 583. Their combined scores surpassed the Chinese team by a margin of 3 points.
With this achievement, India has now secured its seventh shooting medal at the Asian Games, marking its fourth gold medal overall. Earlier, the trio of Divyansh Singh Panwar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar had secured a world-record-breaking gold in the men’s 10-meter air rifle team event. In the women’s 10-meter air rifle team event, the trio of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey earned a silver medal.
Additionally, Ramita Jindal secured a bronze medal in the women’s 10-meter air rifle individual event, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar clinched bronze in the men’s 10-meter air rifle individual event. The men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol team, consisting of Adarsh Singh, Vijayveer Sidhu, and Anish Bhanwala, also added a bronze medal to India’s tally.
India’s overall medal count at the ongoing continental meet now stands at 16, including four golds, five silvers, and seven bronzes. The shooting events at the Asian Games Hangzhou will continue until October 1, featuring a total of 33 medal events across rifle, pistol, and shotgun categories at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre.
