90% Discount on Settling Old Traffic Challans : In a unique move, the Telangana government has introduced a special scheme offering significant discounts of up to 90% for individuals settling their old traffic challans. This opportunity, provided by the new Congress government, is set to commence from Tuesday, December 26, 2023, and will run until January 10, 2024.
The announcement comes in response to the instructions from the Telangana High Court to organize a Mega Lok Adalat on December 30. Ahead of this event, the government has initiated a chance for citizens to resolve their outstanding traffic challans with substantial discounts.

90% Discount on Settling Old Traffic Challans : Here’s a breakdown of the discount percentages based on vehicle categories:
- Push carts and Telangana State Transport Corporation buses: 90% discount, requiring only 10% of the challan amount to be paid.
- Motorcycle-scooter and three-wheeler/auto-rickshaw drivers: 80% discount, allowing them to settle the challan by paying only Rs 20 out of Rs 100.
- Cars, mini trucks, trucks, buses, etc.: 60% discount on the challan amount, requiring payment of only Rs 400 for a challan of Rs 1000.
The scheme encourages individuals to visit the e-challan website and settle their pending challans online within the specified time frame.
With advancements in technology, traffic rule violations are monitored through surveillance systems. Vehicle owners are advised to regularly check the website by entering their vehicle’s number to stay informed about any issued traffic challans.
This initiative aligns with the Congress party’s election manifesto promise to provide relief to vehicle owners by offering exemptions on traffic challans. Last year, the BRS government provided a similar relaxation, granting a 75% discount for two-wheelers and a 50% waiver for other vehicle categories. This led to a significant response, with about 65% of the challans being paid and the traffic police earning Rs 300 crore within 45 days.
