The Uttarakhand Sports Department has officially opened the application process for the Devbhoomi Uttarakhand Khel Ratna and Devbhoomi Uttarakhand Dronacharya Awards for the year 2022-23. The announcement, made by Sports Minister Rekha Arya, invites players and sports coaches from the state to submit their applications by the deadline of October 16.
In addition to these prestigious accolades, eligible players and coaches also have the opportunity to vie for the Himalaya Putra Award. The Sports Department administers the following awards to honor and motivate the athletes and coaches of the state:
Devbhoomi Uttarakhand Khel Ratna Award
- This award represents the highest state honor in the realm of sports and is bestowed upon exceptional players.
- Recipients are rewarded with a sum of Rs 5.00 lakh, along with a citation, shawl, and blazer.
- Importantly, this award can be conferred upon a player only once, and the same player cannot reapply for it.
Himalaya Patra Sports Award
- The Himalaya Ratna Sports Award is a novel initiative introduced by the Sports Department in 2022.
- It recognizes deserving players who have made significant contributions to sports.
- Six awards are presented annually, with two reserved for team events and one designated for handicapped/disabled players.
- Recipients receive a reward of Rs 1.00 lakh, along with a citation, shawl, and blazer.
- Similar to the Khel Ratna Award, a player can receive the Himalaya Patra Sports Award only once, but they remain eligible for other awards if they meet the respective criteria.
Devbhoomi Uttarakhand Dronacharya Award

- This esteemed award is dedicated to coaches, with two trainers honored each year.
- One trainer is recognized with a lifetime achievement award for their consistent coaching excellence.
- Recipients are presented with a sum of Rs. 3.00-3.00 lakh, in addition to a citation, shawl, and blazer.
- Each coach can be honored with the Dronacharya Award only once, and they are not eligible for repeat applications.
Cash Awards for National and International Medal Winners and Participants
- The state provides cash incentives to players who achieve notable success at the national and international levels.
- The cash awards range from a minimum of Rs 10,000 to a maximum of Rs 2.00 crore, depending on the level of achievement.
