MUMBAI: Tata Projects Ltd is gearing up to make a significant stride in the semiconductor manufacturing sector, with a target of deriving approximately 20% of its revenue from constructing state-of-the-art chip factories by the fiscal year 2025-26, as highlighted by Vinayak Pai, the Managing Director of the company, during an interview.
Pai emphasized that one of the company’s focal points lies in the design and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of advanced gigafactories dedicated to semiconductor and electronics manufacturing. Drawing from its extensive experience in electronics, solar panel manufacturing facilities, and data centers, Tata Projects aims to deliver substantial value to its clients in the realm of semiconductor and chip production.

Currently, Tata Projects is in the final stages of preparation for an expansive “state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing project.” This endeavor is set to incorporate cutting-edge construction techniques, including prefab/pre-engineered/modular construction, to ensure its success. Pai underscored the company’s ambition for this segment to contribute over 20% of its total revenue by the fiscal year 2025-26.
The company believes that its technical proficiency in areas such as clean rooms and ultra-pure water systems will serve as a robust foundation for the success of this ambitious project. In line with its strategic objectives, Tata Projects plans to expedite its design processes and enhance the utilization of digital tools.
Tata Projects also envisions substantial prospects in other verticals, such as the steel industry and metals manufacturing, according to Pai.
Furthermore, the company is actively engaged in aviation projects, with the “Noida airport” standing out as a significant venture. “We commenced this project in the middle of last year and are targeting its completion by the end of the upcoming year,” Pai remarked.

In the bustling city of Mumbai, Tata Projects has its sights set on the timely completion of various urban-related projects by the fiscal year 2023-24. Among these projects are the Mumbai metro line, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link – Package 2, and two residential undertakings in Thane and Panvel.
Meanwhile, the company disclosed its first-quarter revenue from operations, amounting to approximately ₹3984.1 crore, offset by a loss of ₹94.37 crore. For the fiscal year 2022-23, Tata Projects reported a total revenue from operations of ₹5015.8 crore, accompanied by a loss of ₹364.8 crore.
Looking ahead, Pai expressed optimism, forecasting a breakeven point for the fiscal year 2023-24 and anticipating a profitable outcome for the current year.
