Uttarakhand : SDRF Emerges as Lifesaver Amidst Rain and Floods

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], August 14 (ANI): In the face of nature’s fury in Uttarakhand, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is actively engaged in relief and rescue operations across various locations. Intense rainfall in Uttarakhand has triggered landslides and sudden floods in multiple areas.

Following the directives of Manikant Mishra, Commandant of SDRF, the SDRF teams have been tirelessly involved in relief and rescue efforts throughout the night of Sunday, with the operations continuing ceaselessly. “In Ambagh, Rishikesh, a pregnant woman found herself trapped in rising waters. In response, the SDRF team sprang into action, successfully evacuating her to safety,” reported the SDRF.

With the Ganga River’s water level surpassing the danger mark at Kangri Shyampur, Haridwar, the SDRF team proactively evacuated riverside huts as a precautionary measure. Approximately 70 to 80 individuals were relocated to secure locations, as confirmed by the SDRF team.

An incident involving an overturned car was reported near the Laxmanjhula area, resulting in a woman and two children being reported missing. The SDRF team has initiated a thorough search operation within the vicinity.

Numerous road blockages are posing significant challenges for SDRF teams in reaching various locations to provide assistance to those in need. Despite these hurdles, SDRF teams are making utmost efforts and promptly responding to reports of incidents from diverse areas.

As per the IMD forecast, Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar are likely to experience very heavy to extremely heavy rain/thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intense to extremely intense spells at isolated spots. Official estimates indicate that 52 lives have been lost due to rain-related incidents during this monsoon session, while 37 individuals have sustained injuries.

Under the guidance of the chief minister, SDRF and NDRF personnel have been deployed in severely affected areas due to rain-related emergencies. (ANI)
