Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand encountered a seismic event today as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake shook the area. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported this earthquake, which took place on September 25th at 8:35 am, with a depth of 5 kilometers.
The NCS utilized the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to disseminate comprehensive details about the seismic activity. They stated, “On September 25, 2023, at 08:35:54 IST, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 occurred, located at coordinates Lat: 31.07 and Long: 77.98, at a depth of 5 km in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, India.”

In the preceding week, the Mandi and Chamba districts in Himachal Pradesh also experienced minor earthquakes, registering at 2.8 and 2.1 on the Richter Scale, as per data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Additionally, on the same day, two more seismic events shook different parts of India. One earthquake, measuring 4.3 on the Richter Scale, transpired in the Bay of Bengal at 09:38:11 IST. The epicenter of this earthquake was identified at a latitude of 8.76 and a longitude of 87.95, with a depth of 37 kilometers, as reported by the National Center for Seismology. Another earthquake, also with a magnitude of 4.3, jolted the Andaman Sea at 02:31:50 IST. The epicenter for this event was located at latitude 7.57 and longitude 94.81, with a depth of 35 kilometers, according to information from the National Center for Seismology.
