Anneliese van der Pol recently shared an entertaining anecdote about her time waiting tables, including an encounter with Ashley Tisdale, following their shared journey on Disney Channel.
Famous for portraying Chelsea on “That’s So Raven” from 2003 to 2007, and reprising the role on the spinoff “Raven’s Home,” Anneliese has embarked on a diverse career path. Her journey led her to Broadway, with fewer acting roles in the mid-2010s.

In the inaugural episode of her podcast, where she is joined by fellow Disney alum Christy Carlson Romano, Anneliese delved into a period when she “worked in several New York restaurants. I took pride in it; it required a lot of multitasking.”
However, the attention she received from customers evoked a blend of emotions: “The disappointment, the expressions, the shift in demeanor upon recognizing me—it was quite poignant. It was as if I had to assure them, ‘I’m fine. In fact, I’m content not auditioning and engaging in something I excel at.'”
She elaborated, “I’m conscious that when I clear a table or serve a meal, I execute it flawlessly. There’s no room for judgment. Ironically, I felt judged.”
Anneliese disclosed that among her patrons were recognizable faces. “I distinctly remember an instance when I waited on Ashley Tisdale. I believe she was lovely, but…” Anneliese’s words trailed off, accompanied by a sip of her drink.

“Though she didn’t do anything overt, I sensed her unease on my behalf. It was as though I had to silently convey, ‘I’ve got this, girl!'”
Christy chimed in with a touch of humor, stating, “The younger generation that succeeded us at Disney, they’re remarkable. However, I believe we possessed thicker skin. We’ve encountered our fair share of challenges.”
In this candid exchange, Anneliese Van Der Pol and Christy Carlson Romano offered both light-hearted and insightful perspectives on life beyond the spotlight of Disney Channel.
