Major Raid in Nainital : In a significant late-night operation, Nainital police apprehended 33 individuals and confiscated ₹4 lakhs in cash during a raid on an illicit casino operating within a hotel located on the Nainital-Haldwani road. Notably, among the detained were 12 bar girls who were serving alcohol to the gamblers.
Law enforcement acted swiftly, registering a case and taking all suspects into custody. However, the hotel manager remains at large. The arrested individuals hailed from various regions, including Delhi, Saharanpur, Haridwar, Faridabad, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

SSP PN Meena revealed these developments during a press conference held in Nainital on Tuesday. According to him, acting on a tip-off, the Tallital police, under the leadership of CO Nitin Lohani, conducted a late-night raid at Hotel River View in Dolmar on Monday. The operation laid bare the illicit casino operation within the hotel premises, causing panic among the gamblers when they spotted the police. While one person managed to escape, the authorities apprehended 12 girls and 33 suspects.
SSP Meena highlighted that the raid led to the detention of 21 young men and 12 girls, all involved in gambling and serving alcohol at the unlawful casino. Charges have been filed against all 33 suspects, including Suraj Pal Gupta, the casino operator and a resident of Indrapuram, Ghaziabad (UP), under the Public Gambling Act and Excise Act. Additionally, four vehicles were seized at the scene. The arrested individuals have been presented before a court of law.

During the operation, the police seized ₹4 lakhs in cash from the casino area and recovered ₹1.68 lakhs from the detainees. Furthermore, law enforcement confiscated 3692 casino chips, eight decks of cards, 12 bottles of liquor from various brands, and other related items.

SSP Meena stressed that the police are actively monitoring all hotels and resorts in the district. Any complaints regarding illegal gambling or unauthorized alcohol service will be met with resolute action. He also mentioned that support is being sought from the district administration and the tourism department in this regard.

To commend the efforts of the team involved in the operation, SSP awarded them a cash prize of ₹2500. The team, led by SP Crime and Traffic Dr. Jagdish Chandra, comprised 20 members, including CO Nitin Lohani, SO Tallital Rohitash Sagar, Jeolikot outpost incharge Narendra Kumar, and SOG incharge Rajbir Negi.
